Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung hosted a reception for 10 journalists from nine countries in America, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East in early November, in which he briefed on China’s aggressive tactics and Taiwan’s relations with Europe, South America and the U.S., according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry said that the group was on a visit Nov. 2-8 to gain insight into the country’s politics and economy.

Lin noted that Taiwan-U.S. relations were established upon the firm foundation of Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances, adding that the two sides not only share core values of democracy and respect for human rights but also have common interests in the areas of security and supply chains.

Speaking of Taiwan-Europe cooperation, Lin said that Taiwan could assist Europe with reindustrialization in artificial intelligence and big data to jointly forge a democratic supply chain. In cultural diplomacy, in September Lin visited Austria where he attended the Viennese Music Association’s Brahms Saal in which Liu Suan-yung, Taiwan representative to Austria performed.
The concert, titled “When East Meets West,” was a cultural diplomacy initiative and part of the “Taiwan Culture in Europe 2025” initiative launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture earlier this year. Despite protests from China, the concert went ahead and was a success.

Lin also briefed the group on a Taiwan-Paraguay collaborative initiative under the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, which centers on green economy, educational cooperation and technological investment.

In a reception given by Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu, the latter emphasized that China disrupts Taiwan through use of hybrid warfare, and has also threatened the security of the European Union and international semiconductor supply chains. Wu said that Taiwan remained committed to safeguarding regional peace and stability. (POC-E)
